Limited Edition Sephora Sun Safety Kit 2018 – only $36 ($161 value)
Summer + Smiles + Sunblock
It’s that time of year again! With summer around the corner, the popular Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit hit the shelves for only $36 for 16 products and a makeup bag (retail value $161). Added bonus? Sephora will donate $25 from the sale of each kit to skin cancer research and education. Double added bonus? Included in this kit are two full-size products, a tropical-inspired makeup bag, and removable tassel. This limited edition bag is in stores and online, while supplies last. Tip: I’d recommend you call your local store first to see if they have stock.
Summer is coming, but first, sunscreen
I love everything about summer and that means enjoying the great outdoors and cool waters responsibly. Here are a few of my sun protection tips:
- Use broad spectrum SPF of at least 30 or higher – Since spending time in the sun increases skin cancer and early skin aging, I use a broad spectrum (UVA + UVB) sun protection of at least SPF 30 for my face and SPF 45 for my body. I use a higher SPF because I have fair skin and burn easily. Use what’s best for your skin type.
- Limit sun exposure during 10am-2pm – If you also live an outdoor and active lifestyle, and staying indoors isn’t always optimal, try to protect yourself with a hat, sunglasses, and long-sleeve everything. Yea, I do this when I remember and I pretty much look like a beekeeper.
- Use a water-resistant formula when in the water – Apply a water-resistant sunscreen liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure and, as always, reapply every few hours. Note: this kit includes three water-resistant sunscreen formulas, including a mousse.
- Reapply every few hours – Whether you’re in the water or running errands, it’s highly recommended to reapply sunscreen every few hours. That is when the spray sunscreens come in handy since it doesn’t involve disrupting your makeup. Just make sure it’s applied evenly.
So naturally, as a lover of Sephora + SPF, I always buy Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit every year. It’s a curated collection of everything SPF to protect from head to toe. This is a perfect introduction to try various products carried at Sephora, like tinted sunscreen, BB cream, self-tanner pads, sun protection mist, and new this year–sunscreen mousse, a rescue mask, and two full-size sunscreen products. What I’m most excited about this bag is the handful of green and natural brands’ sunscreen products.
It’s also a wonderful way to try different types of sunblock products–physical (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) and chemical-based (oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate) sunscreens. The sizes are perfect–airplane-friendly and compact enough to place in my purse.
Products in the Sephora Sun Safety Kit 2018 & Reviews
AmorePacific Resort Collection Sun Protection Mist Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen // Haven’t tried this yet, but look forward to retouching my face with this spray throughout the day without having to rub sunscreen on when I’m out and about. This comes in handy because we’re supposed to reapply every few hours.
Clinique Pep-Start Hydro Rush Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 // Haven’t tried this yet.
Coola Rōsilliance™ Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30 (Light/Medium) // Haven’t tried this yet, but I love BB creams to even out skin tones with a glow. I also tend to gravitate towards mineral-based sunscreens. If this formula is like their other products, I remember it being light and a barely-there feel.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Gradual Glow Pad Self-Tanner for Face // Haven’t tried this yet.
Dr. Jart+ Cicapair ™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 // Haven’t tried this particular product with SPF 30, but I’m a fan of Dr. Jart+ products and do adore the Cicapair line. I use the Cicapair moisturizer for when my skin gets dry and irritated. The green-to-beige color-correcting treatment helps correct redness and protect my skin from fluctuating weather.
Drunk Elephant Skincare Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 // I haven’t tried this yet, but I am a fan of Drunk Elephant products. Can’t wait to try this tinted physical sunscreen!
Farmacy Beauty Green Screen Daily Environmental Protector Broad Spectrum Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 with Echinacea GreenEnvy™ // Absolutely love this sunscreen. I actually just finished this full-size product and highly recommend it. It’s a mineral-based sunblock and with its innovative formula, it doesn’t leave a white cast and is non-greasy. It says it also may guard against free radicals emitted from smart phones and computers.
Fresh Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15 // This is all I use on my lips. The Rose tint is the perfect hint of pink, provides moisture and sun protection. What I don’t like about this mini-size tube is with a hard hand or on a warm day it tends to get soft and either breaks or “melt” on my lips and smears along the edge of the tube.
Lancome BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen (full-size) // I haven’t used this yet, but I’m impressed they included this full-size product (retail value: $40). This is a water-resistant formula (80 minutes) and perfect for the pool or beach. Remember to reapply every few hours.
Murad Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA+++ // This invisible sunscreen can act like a primer and creates a smooth canvas on my skin before I use a tinted moisturizer or foundation.
Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense Lotion SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion // This is a regular item in the Sephora Sun Safety Kit and I’ve tried it multiple times. It’s a good ultra-light, two-in-one antioxidant sunscreen, and hydrator. I sometimes mix this product with my foundation if I want some sheer color with sun protection.
philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Multi-Rejuvenating Cream SPF 30 // Haven’t tried this yet.
REN Skincare Evercalm™ Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask // Haven’t tried this yet, but in the case I need some 911-skin rescue revival, I know what product to turn to.
Shiseido Wetforce Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ for Face/Body // This is a kit regular over the years and can be used for face or body. It’s a water-resistant sunscreen (80 minutes) and perfect for the pool or beach. Remember to reapply every few hours.
Supergoop! Super Power Sunscreen Mousse Broad Spectrum SPF 50 (full-size) // Haven’t tried this yet, but this is a water-resistant sunscreen (80 minutes) and perfect for the pool or beach. Bonus: It’s a full-size product (retail value: $19). I look forward to trying the mousse formula. It seems like it’ll be fun to apply. Remember to reapply every few hours.
tarte tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30 // I leave this in my car and use this as my SPF for the back of my hands when I drive. I’m impressed with this physical-based sunscreen that doesn’t leave a greasy residue and keeps my hands protected in the California sun.
